POLICE at Keetmanshoop have arrested three of the remaining five members of the Police's Serious Crime Unit and Special Branch units at the town on Friday.

The commander of the Serious Crime Unit, Jacobus Otto (41), Cyroll Serogwe (29) and Daniel Nicodemus appeared before Magistrate Alfred Siboleka in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Four other policemen appeared in court on Thursday, charged with murder after the death of a suspect, Makarius IIkali, in Police custody.

The latest three officers were not asked to plead and bail of N$1 500 was granted on condition that they do not interfere with or intimidate the State witnesses.

All of them have been released after paying bail.

The case was postponed to May 12 for further investigation and to gave the accused time to acquire legal representation.

The two remaining Police members - the commander of the Special Branch and a Constable of the Serious Crime Unit - are expected to be arrested soon.

The officers have not been suspended from the Police force, Karas Regional Commander Josephat Abel confirmed yesterday.

He said a decision to suspend policemen has to be taken by the Police Inspector General.
