Natangwe Iipinge Ngatjizeko (27) is facing a charge of murder in the case that made a brief showing before Magistrate Desmond Beukes yesterday. Ngatjizeko is accused of having murdered his mother, Fenny Iipinge (58), by stabbing her numerous times with a knife in her house in Katutura's Shandumbala area on Sunday afternoon. Iipinge was a former personal assistant to Namibia's former First Lady, Kovambo Nujoma. Ngatjizeko is her son from a relationship with Trade and Industry Minister Immanuel Ngatjizeko. The Police arrested Ngatjizeko (Jnr) in Windhoek on Monday afternoon, after which he was admitted to a hospital in the capital to be treated for injuries that included cuts and burns to his hands. He could not appear in court yesterday because he is still in hospital, Public Prosecutor Emmy Wabomba told Magistrate Beukes, asking him to strike the case off the court roll. The striking of the case from the roll means that the Police may not actually keep Ngatjizeko in custody any longer. The Police are just waiting for Ngatjizeko's medical condition to improve to such an extent that he can be taken to court in person, and will in the meantime get a warrant for his arrest and detention ready in order to execute this once he is fit enough to be discharged from hospital, the Commanding Officer of the Namibian Police's Public relations and Liaison Division, Chief Inspector Hieronymus Goraseb, said yesterday. Ngatjizeko was set to undergo surgery to his hands yesterday. His mother was found lying dead in a pool of blood in her house on Sunday, reportedly also with burns, thought to have been caused by hot water. A neighbour who had heard screams coming from her house claimed to have seen Ngatjizeko leaving the house after the screaming had died down. |
