Ten months ago Kornelia Shaulwa came to Windhoek from the North to join her husband Peter, who works in construction, something she also does.

In quiet periods, she took every opportunity to improve her handcraft skills as well as work on her English.

When Danielle Bruckert, who owns the property Peter is working on, was given a huge supply of unwanted packaging material, in this case polystyrene beans, they thought about putting it to good use.

This is where the idea of making cushions and beanbags came in.

Next they went looking for someone who needed an income-generating project and teamed up with a support group at the AIDS Care Trust in Katutura.

With Kornelia as team leader, they started training the first four women to sew the items.

This first group is now in a position to deliver the cushions and beanbags.

Promoting the beanbags under the name Bean Thingy's, Danielle asked Kornelia to think about a name for the entire project and so Iyaloo came about.
