President appeals to road users

BRIGITTE WEIDLICH

PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba has appealed to all road users to refrain from dangerous driving habits and to respect traffic regulations at all times.

Speaking at the year-end ceremony for staff and invited guests at State House yesterday, the Head of State urged drivers to reduce their speed to make roads safer for all people.

"I implore you to do your part and prevent the senseless loss of innocent lives, as it is disheartening to see how the festive season has started off on a sorrowful note with several road accidents that cost many youthful lives," he said.

"Seventeen lives were lost during a gruesome accident between Grootfontein and Rundu - we should say with one voice that enough is enough.

Let us end this senseless carnage!" President Pohamba asked all present to observe a minute of silence for those who lost their lives in road accidents over the past few days.
