Wednesday, August 30, 2006 - Web posted at 8:00:28 GMT Polio drops did not kill baby: Health Ministry CHRISTOF MALETSKYTHE Ministry of Health has denied that the death of a toddler at Grootfontein last week had anything to do with the polio vaccine he received the day before. |
|
Health Under Secretary Dr Norbert Forster said a post-mortem was done on the 21-month-old boy yesterday morning and it was "highly unlikely" that he had died of complications related to the immunisation. "In terms of our investigation, there is no relation between the death and the immunisation. Usually an allergic reaction would happen in an hour's time," Forster said. According to the Police's crime bulletin, the boy felt sick and started vomiting a day after receiving the polio drops. Forster said the health authorities had interviewed the mother and it appeared that something else was the cause of the boy's death. The final results of the post-mortem have not yet been released. |
