Agricultural shows kick off this weekend

GOBABIS - The preparations for this year's agricultural and industrial shows at Otjinene, Epukiro and Otjombinde are in full swing, according to the organisers.

In an interview with Nampa on Monday, the Chairperson of the Otjinene Farmers' Association, Mbamunondjamu Kaahangoro, said that many farmers in his area had registered their small and large livestock.

He said 15 communal farmers had so far shown their interest in exhibiting their livestock and hand-made products this weekend.

He said the purpose of the show was to enhance the quality of livestock breeding in the area.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Otjombinde Farmers' Association, Stanley Tjozongoro, said that about 42 small livestock, 57 cattle and various projects have registered to take part in next weekend's Otjombinde show.

Tjozongoro said the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Kahijoro Kahuure, and Otjombinde Regional Councillor Jeremiah Ndjoze would be among the invited guests at the show.

At Epukiro, Show Committee spokesperson Katjinduu Tjahuha said that 15 cattle, 20 small livestock and 5 projects had been registered so far for the Epukiro agricultural show, which also takes place next weekend.
