Two Government cars written off in one day

TWO Government-owned vehicles were reportedly wrecked in separate accidents in the Hardap Region on Tuesday.

In one of the accidents, 87-year-old Johannes Noebeb died on a gravel road about 18 km from Stampriet in the South when the driver of the vehicle he had been travelling in lost control of the car and it overturned.

The driver was not injured, the Police reported yesterday.

In the second accident, which happened about 27 km outside Mariental, the driver of a Government-owned Toyota sedan was charged with reckless and negligent driving.

The vehicle overturned on the road between Mariental and Kalkrand.

The driver and a passenger suffered minor injuries.

* The body of a three-year-old girl, Hilja Shikongo, was found in a pond after she went missing from home the previous day at Okatope in the Onyaanya area this week.

The Police said Shikongo's body was found at Lihongo village.

* The Police also reported that Paulus Lucas (52) is believed to have committed suicide.

He was founding hanging in his sleeping hut at Okumukwa village, in the Endola area, yesterday.
