No exit package discussed for Hiveluah: SSC

* STAFF REPORTER

THE Social Security Commission has denied that it has held discussions with former SSC Chief Executive Officer Tuli Hiveluah about a possible severance package and guarantee against civil claims from the SSC.

Hiveluah resigned from his post suddenly two weeks ago.

No meetings where an "exit package" for Hiveluah had been discussed had ever taken place, the SSC claimed in a statement on Monday in reaction to a front-page report published in the New Era on Friday.

In the report, it was stated that Hiveluah was seeking "immunity from civil charges from the SSC" as part of his exit package.

It was reported that Hiveluah wanted the SSC not to lay any civil claims against him in an attempt to recover money the SSC might lose as a result of an investment of N$30 million that the SSC did with an inexperienced asset management company, Avid Investment Corporation, on Hiveluah's watch during January.

Hiveluah's involvement in the deal led to his suspension last month.

Two weeks ago, just over a week before he was set to face a disciplinary hearing over his role in the decision to invest money through Avid, he quit as CEO with immediate effect.

He had been in the post since January last year.

During negotiations with Hiveluah's lawyer, Charles Visser of the law firm Lorentz & Bone, over the then pending disciplinary hearing, lawyer Norman Tjombe, who was set to lead the charges against Hiveluah on the SSC's behalf at the hearing, never had any negotiations about an "exit package" or immunity from possible future charges for Hiveluah, the SSC claims in the statement "As a matter of policy, Mr Hiveluah would only be entitled to monies accruing from his leave days and his salary up to the 14th September 2005, less any amount he might be owing to the Commission," the statement reads.
