NAMDEB computer technician Silvanus Engelbrecht made a brief appearance in the Oranjemund Magistrate's Court on Friday on charges of forgery and uttering.

The case was postponed until October 26 and the suspect was granted bail of N$1 000.

Engelbrect allegedly issued false Grade 10 and 12 certificates in exchange for payment ranging from N$1 500 to N$2 500.

Regional Police Commander Josephat Abel told The Namibian that the Police, acting on a tip-off from the public, raided Engelbrecht's flat and found scanned Grade 10 and 12 certificates ready to be printed.

According to the Police, 11 people have landed jobs at Namdeb with bogus school certificates bought from Engelbrecht.

Approached for comment, Namdeb's Human Resources Manager, Louisa Profgit, said she was not aware of the allegations.
