Fresh clues on headless killing

THE woman whose beheaded body was discovered next to the Western Bypass road in Windhoek on Sunday morning has been identified as Windhoek resident Juanitha Mabula.

She was 22 years old.

The Namibian Police announced yesterday that while the headless and naked body that a passer-by discovered close to a southern section of the Western Bypass on Sunday morning has been positively identified, her head had still not been recovered by late yesterday.

The Police issued an appeal to anyone who might have seen her before she was killed to help with the investigation into her death and the recovery of her head.

Investigators are especially interested in making contact with two men who were seen in Mabula's company on Saturday night and who were filmed on a closed-circuit television system when they and Mabula visited a service station shop in Windhoek, a Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector Angula Amulungu, said late yesterday.

On a still picture that was taken from CCTV footage recorded at the Engen service station shop on the corner of Independence Avenue and Uhland Street, Mabula - dressed in a low-cut pink top and dark-coloured jeans - is seen in the company of two well-built men.

One is dressed in a khaki-coloured short-sleeved shirt and light-coloured jeans, while the other is wearing a zipped-up black jacket with two yellow stripes running horizontally across the top part of the jacket.

Amulungu said according to information gathered during the investigation so far, Mabula was afterwards seen outside the shop, where she appeared to be smoking with one of the two men.

After that, she was seen walking towards the Chez Ntemba nightclub in Uhland Street, across the road from the service station.

By around 08h00 on Sunday, a passer-by who was taking his dog for a walk found her body, with the head missing, lying naked next to a dirt road that runs off a gravel road that runs from the Western Bypass to horse stables near Windhoek's Prosperita area.

From the relatively small amount of blood at the scene, it appeared that she had been killed elsewhere and dumped next to the road later.

While asking anyone with information on Mabula's last movements to assist with the Police investigation, Amulungu also assured that any information would be treated confidentially.

"Thus, we urge those in possession of vital information to come forward without fear of retribution by the suspects," he stated.

Information can be provided to the nearest Police station, or to Detective Warrant Officer Scott at (cellphone) 081 253 0303, or to Joey Swartz at 081 294 6011 or (061) 218 225.
