Thursday, September 22, 2005 - Web posted at 7:22:58 GMT State buries unclaimed corpses at Rundu * HERMAN NGASIARUNDU - Sixteen unidentified bodies were removed from the Rundu State Hospital mortuary on Tuesday morning after several failed attempts to get hold of their families. |
|
A well-placed source disclosed to Nampa that some of these bodies had been in the mortuary for almost a year and the hospital management had made several announcements through the NBC's Rukavango Radio Service to trace their relatives and families. However all efforts had proved in vain. Most unclaimed bodies in the mortuary were brought in by the Police. The mortuary's refrigeration unit has been out of order for several days. The burial of the unclaimed bodies, at Sarusungu graveyard near Rundu, was done by the Namibian Police with the assistance of the Rundu State Hospital to create space once the mortuary is back in working condition. Nampa established that a local company was repairing the mortuary after spare parts finally arrived from South Africa, but it was not clear when the repairs would be completed. The mortuary at Rundu State Hospital is the biggest in the Kavango Region. - Nampa |
