THE Police at Okongo and Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region are investigating a murder case in which a 60-year-old man was beheaded and the murder suspect paraded the head on a stick in nearby villages on Saturday.

The victim has been identified as Elias Shoombe from Ongumi village, said the Police Commander for Ohangwena, Deputy Commissioner Armas Shivute.

According to Shivute, the Police at Okongo have arrested Josef Hakaonde (33) in connection with the gruesome murder.

He is scheduled to appear in the Eenhana Magistrate's Court this morning.

According to the Okongo Police, Hakaonde is claimed to have confessed that he killed Shoombe because he allegedly had an affair with Hakaonde's girlfriend in 2002.

Apparently, Hakaonde and Shoombe met in the mahangu field of the headman of Ongumi village on Saturday and started arguing.

Hakaonde allegedly took his panga and hacked off Shoombe's head.

According to the Police, Hakaonde then impaled the head on a stick, carried it to the nearby cuca shops and asked people whether they knew whose head it was.

"I have at last killed this bad man and you can now go and report it to the Police," the witnesses quoted Hakaonde as allegedly saying.

Cuca shop patrons called the Okongo Police and Hakaonde was arrested.
