He hanged himself in one of the huts at his homestead in Tsandi village in the Omusati Region. His wife, Paulina Iipinge, who found him, reported the incident to the Tsandi Police, who took his body to the Oshakati Police mortuary. Iipinge left behind a letter, in which he said his suicide was not prompted by anybody else's actions. "His action and death stunned all of us - his family, the school and the community - because he was a good man who was always counselling others and we cannot believe that he could take his life in this way," the school's Deputy Principal, Julius Shiimi, told The Namibian. Iipinge was the founder of the Shikongo Iipinge Senior Secondary School in 1985. He also served as school inspector in the Okahao Education Circuit from 1994 to 1999. He is survived by his wife and four children. |
