THE Police at Okahao in the Omusati Region have arrested six men found in possession of a stolen vehicle.

The Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner Christof Nakanyala, says the six were arrested on Friday and appeared in the Outapi Magistrate's Court yesterday.

The suspects were identified as Jason Ngalandji (28), Josef Amalovu (32), Kondja Iilonga (24), Denis Tjazapi (28), Andreas Kapuku (31) and Charles Katjizembua (30).

Kapuku is a teacher at Etalaleko Senior Secondary School at Okahao.

They were not asked to plead and their case was postponed to May 30 next year for further investigation.

No bail was granted and they all remain in Police custody.

Nakanyala told The Namibian that the vehicle, a four-wheel-drive Toyota double-cab bakkie, was reported stolen in Windhoek in January this year.

It was hidden in a homestead at Ongongolwa village in the Uukwaluudhi District.

The six suspects allegedly stripped the bakkie last week to sell the parts in Oshakati, Nakanyala said.

Police at Okahao noticed a bakkie loaded with car parts passing through the town on Thursday night.

They followed it and arrested the driver and his passengers.

The investigation led to the discovery of the stripped 4x4 at Ongongolwa.

"The whole Toyota pick-up has been stripped and it will be difficult to put it together again," Deputy Commissioner Nakanyala said.
