Opposition worried about AirNam

POLITICAL pressure is mounting on Air Namibia to provide answers to the National Assembly on its financial status.

On Thursday, the DTA's Johan de Waal demanded a cost breakdown for the airline's recently reintroduced flights to London.

His questions, posed to Finance Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, came hot on the heels of those of the Republican Party's Henk Mudge, who only days earlier questioned the financial status of the airline, amidst reports that it was once again in a financial crisis.

De Waal wants to know what the total income from ticket sales on the London route has been from its introduction on July 1 to the end of September, as well as the number of passengers who have used the flights.

He also wants to know how many of these passengers were actually destined for Namibia, or made use of the route to travel to South Africa.

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila is expected to answer both questions on Thursday.
