* DENVER ISAACS

A 35-year-old driver of a deputy minister, Simon Simeon, yesterday committed suicide by shooting himself in the head in the parking area of Government Office Park in Windhoek.

Simeon was the driver of Deputy Minister of Regional and Local Government and Housing Kazenambo Kazenambo.

According to witnesses at the scene, Simeon drove his car into a parking bay at the Government office complex after lunch, got out of the car and opened the trunk.

He pulled out a pistol and shot himself in the head.

The time of death was recorded as exactly 14h00.

By 14h30, hundreds of employees from surrounding Government offices had gathered at the scene of the incident.

No suicide note was found on the body, and by yesterday afternoon it was not known why he had taken his life.

Simeon was living with an uncle in Windhoek, according to Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Angula Amulungu.
