KEETMANSHOOP businessman Nolan Swartz (42) committed suicide on the gravel road between Ai-Ais and Noordoewer on Thursday.

Regional Police Commander Josephat Abel says Swartz gassed himself in his bakkie about 20 km out of Keetmanshoop.

Abel cited domestic trouble as a possible motive for the suicide.

He said Swartz's wife, Jackie Swartz, laid assault charges against her husband last Monday.

Swartz allegedly bashed his wife's head against a washbasin after the couple attended the opening of the Shuetzenhaus Guest House and Restaurant.

According to a Police report, Mrs Swartz sustained head injuries and had to receive four stitches.

Swartz left a suicide note for his son, Ryno, which reads: "Sorry, but this time around I'm not going to jail.

Dad gone for a while.

Will phone you.

Take care of yourself.

We will sort out things and start again.

Sorry, but I know you understand and will realise.

Love U.

Dad."
