Northland City launched

PRESIDENT Hifikepunye Pohamba on Wednesday night launched Northland City, a 500 000-square-metre business and entertainment complex situated in the town of Helao Nafidi (Oshikango) in the Ohangwena Region.

This billion dollar initiative will include a shopping complex, a five-star hotel, conference facilities, a casino, a nightclub, a golf course, heritage museum, an Olympic swimming pool, a track and soccer stadium, a wildlife park and an entertainment centre.

The project will provide employment to about 3 500 people.

Pohamba said he was confident that the project would help improve the lives of local people by creating jobs and training many people involved in the various phases of the project.

He reminded the guests at the event that for many years, economic and social activities in many parts of northern Namibia were disrupted by bandits crossing the border from Angola.

Pohamba indicated that the social and economic advancement of the country depended on the creativity and ingenuity of its people.

He said the Northland City project should serve as a challenge to other Namibians to initiate more investments, particularly in the manufacturing sector, so that the economy can grow and create more jobs.

The Northland City project will be implemented in five phases, with construction expected to start in May next year.
