Wednesday, March 23, 2005 - Web posted at 9:19:48 GMT New NamPost CEO ready to take the reins TONDERAI KATSWARATHE Board of Namibia Post Limited (NamPost) yesterday announced the appointment of Sakaria Haufiku Nghikembua as the new Chief Executive Officer of NamPost with effect from April 1, following the resignation of his predecessor last year. |
|
Nghikembua joins the company from Telecom Namibia, where he served as general manager in various business units. Announcing the appointment, NamPost acting board chairman Sackey Aipinge said Nghikembua came recommended as a "highly skilled and effective executive", and is expected to bring his expertise and experience into key areas within NamPost. Nghikembua said he was aware of challenges associated with working for the self-financing state-owned enterprise. He said he was ready to add value to the company but was not under any false illusions. The newly appointed CEO said he had four key areas which he intended to tackle - customer centrism, good corporate governance, financial sustainability and employee development. "NamPost's business portfolio includes such diverse and challenging lines of business as the core postal operations, philately, courier services, banking and a host of new products and services classified under the 'agencies' umbrella. "A more appropriate term for the latter category is perhaps, New Business. Therefore, I join NamPost with no illusions whatsoever about the demands of this job, the high expectations of the various stakeholders and the realities of the market. I do not arrive here with any messianic pretensions," said Nghikembua. Former CEO Hermanus Kasper resigned from the state-owned organisation early last year and Johan Claasen was at that time appointed as caretaker CEO until a permanent replacement for Kasper was found. |
