No social workers in western Kavango

RUNDU - The Regional Councillor for Kahenge Constituency in the Kavango region, Joseph Sivaku Sikongo, says the lack of social workers at Nankudu State Hospital has contributed to many problems in his constituency.

Sikongo told Nampa that the absence of social workers at the hospital has contributed to many senior citizens in Kahenge and Mpungu constituencies not benefiting from the Government pension scheme.

He says beneficiaries have to travel as far as Rundu State Hospital to complete evaluation forms before they could be admitted to the pension scheme.

Most of the elderly cannot afford this, as they have to spend several days in Rundu to complete the process.

The councillor recommended that at least two social workers be assigned to Nankudu to assist the community.

Besides the pensioners, there are other social problems in the area that require the attention of social workers, he pointed out.

Sikongo promised to take up the matter with the Health and Social Service Ministry in Rundu.
