Thursday, January 27, 2005 - Web posted at 7:31:43 GMT Windhoek southern suburbs have water again STAFF REPORTERTHE City of Windhoek says normal water supply to homes and businesses in Olympia, Kleine Kuppe, Cimbebasia and Prosperita should be restored following the repair of two water pipes to the area. |
|
Pipe bursts in Frankie Fredericks and Michelle McClean streets left these areas with intermittent and poor water pressure over the weekend. The City's Public Relations Division apologised for any inconvenience the situation might have caused. It explained that most of the water pipes in the city are more than 25 years old and in dire need of replacement. The municipality said the growing city population was placing increasing pressure on the water network. The municipality budgets about N$3,2 million annually for the replacement of pipes and also has an emergency budget for replacing broken infrastructure. City officials estimate that more than 1000 cubic metres of water was lost as a result of the burst pipes. |
