Child dies in shack blaze

Four-year-old Cecilia Petrus burned to death in the early hours of Saturday after her family's shack, in the Goreangab informal settlement, caught fire, Police spokesperson Inspector Hannes Naruseb said yesterday.

Naruseb said that Petrus was asleep in the shack with her mother and her infant sister when the fire broke out.

The mother apparently grabbed the baby and ran out.

Petrus burned to death.

Police are still investigating the cause of the fire.
