Thursday, January 6, 2005 - Web posted at 7:38:38 GMT Little progress made in 'muti murder' probe PETROS KUTEEUEPOLICE in the Kavango Region have questioned a middle-aged man in connection with the gruesome murder of a 79-year-old woman whose head was found floating on the Kavango River, but could not obtain information linking him to the suspected muti killing. |

Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Hieronymas Goraseb told The Namibian that the police had received information that the man was spotted at the scene where the elderly woman is believed to have been murdered. "This chap has been interviewed by the police, but at the moment there is no information to connect him to the murder," stated Goraseb. "In fact it was only found that the suspect stole some corrugated iron way back in 2000 and now he has been detained for that." The Police spokesperson said that law enforcement agents in the Kavango have not yet made any breakthrough in their massive search for the rest of the woman's body and for her killers. The elderly woman's head was found at Shadikongoro village near Mukwe, about 180 kilometres east of Rundu, on Sunday after she disappeared on New Year's Eve. It is suspected that she was killed for muti (traditional medicine) purposes. Although she has already been identified by her fellow villagers, the Police are yet to release her name. |
