Nujoma meeting with chiefs called off

OSWALD SHIVUTE at OSHAKATI

PRESIDENT Sam Nujoma's scheduled meeting with the Ondonga and Oukwanyama traditional authorities at Oshakati on Wednesday was cancelled without explanation.

The spokesperson of the Oukwanyama Traditional Authority, Michael Heita, told The Namibian that they had been informed by Regional Governor Usko Nghaamwa to report for a meeting with their Oukwanyama counterparts and the head of state.

Just as suddenly, they were later informed that the meeting had been cancelled.

According to Heita, they were not told what the meeting would be about, but it was logical to assume that the border dispute between the two groups would be discussed.

The two traditional authorities are at loggerheads over the installation of a senior headman at Ekoka village, which both sides claim to be under their jurisdiction.
