THE Namibian under-17 cricketers swept aside their Zimbabwean counterparts by winning all three matches in a series between the two countries that concluded in Windhoek at the end of last week.

The under-17s were the most successful, followed by the under-13 side, which won one of their three matches, while the under-15s lost all three of their matches against the visitors.

The matches were played at Wanderers and the United cricket grounds.

Under-17 hard-hitter Dawie Botha emerged as the player of the series, while he also took the batsman of the competition award.

He scored 96, 82 and 15 runs in the three matches.

Morné Engelbrecht went home with the top bowler of the series award, after raking in ten wickets.

He collected three in the first match, two in the second and an impressive five in the last match.

The Zimbabwean under-15 side was the better team as they won all three of their matches against the home team.

The best under-15 performers for Namibia were Raymond van Schoor, who scored 43, 16 and 29 runs in the three matches.

Willem Groenewald also did his country proud with 21 runs in the first match, nine in the second and 35 in the third.

Rob de Koning and Heinrich Smit both took five wickets for Namibia.

The under-13 side lost the two first matches, but took revenge in the third to emerge as the victors.

The best performers were Owen Bosman, who obtained 33 runs in the first match and 43 runs in the third and last match.

He got a duck in the second match, however.

Bosman was the player of the match in the last game.

Namibia Beverages, Metropolitan Namibia, Ombinda Lodge, Mr Parcel, Swabou, Ellis and partners, Wimpy and Dr de Koning sponsored the weeklong tournament.
