Thursday, December 22, 2005 - Web posted at 7:16:47 GMT Arts Council wraps up business for year * AUGETTO GRAIG THE National Arts Council held its last meeting of the year on Friday last week. The council discussed a four-day fact-finding mission to Zambia recently completed by its chairperson, Vincent Mwemba, and deputy chairperson, Alma Ulamba. |
|
The mission was to investigate the operations of the Zambia National Arts Council and its funding as part of research and twinning possibilities with other arts councils in the region and or abroad. At Friday's meeting, the board also decided to hold a competition to find a logo for the national arts body. A formal request for entries will be advertised in the media early in the new year, according to Frederick Philander, who spoke on behalf of the council. Other matters discussed included the opening of an independent account for the council at a local financial institution, allowances for board members, and a three-day workshop by an arts council expert from Botswana, planned for February 20. All project proposals for financial support will only be considered by the board once a budget for the council's operations and activities had been finalised and secured, Philander said. The National Arts Council has been operating on a budget of N$200 000 provided by the Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture since its inception earlier this year. An annual award ceremony in recognition of all Namibian art disciplines is one of the ideas that will be considered and implemented towards the end of next year, Philander added. The next board meeting will be held on February 15. |
