Hydroponics is the growing of vegetables in basins filled with water and fertiliser.

The Ministry's Directorate of Community Forestry says it will provide the material and technical assistance to households who would like to grow vegetables for their own consumption.

The Directorate encouraged people to take up hydroponic gardening, as it is a cheap way of growing food and does not require a lot of hard work.

Because it is easier than normal gardening, hydroponic gardening is more suitable for elderly and sick people and would add valuable nutrients to their diet.

Members of the Lironga Eparu HIV-AIDS project at Rundu are already involved in hydroponic gardening.

It is expected that this project will soon be extended to other communities in the Kavango Region.
