Rotarians have a bumper Christmas

* DENVER ISAACS

AN estimated N$65 000 worth of food was collected this year for the annual Christmas Hampers Project of the Rotary Club Auas.

At the end of every year, the Rotary Club collects donations from individuals and businesses, and with the help of the Red Cross Society of Namibia distributes these donations, packed in hampers, to people affected by HIV and AIDS in the western suburbs of Windhoek.

These include the informal settlements of Goreangab, Babilon and Okahandja Park.

About 830 hampers were packed this year, according to Red Cross Secretary General Razia Kauaria, with at least 800 recipients identified by the Red Cross.

Hampers include maize meal, rice, sugar, canned food and other necessities such as candles.

The club initially aimed to hand over hampers to the tune of N$30 000.
