Thursday, December 15, 2005 - Web posted at 6:55:40 GMT Remember your ID or face arrest * STAFF REPORTERTHE Ministry of Home Affairs has warned Namibians who travel without identity documents that they will be arrested and detained. |
|
The Ministry's spokesperson Kauku Hengari told The Namibian that it is a requirement for all people travelling on national roads to produce identity documents whenever requested by a law enforcer. "If anybody is found without an identity document, he or she will be detained until we are able to identify you. It is for safety and security reasons," Hengari said. He said many criminals moved about during holidays and it would be easier to arrest them if they produced their identity cards. Also, in many accidents, Police and health authorities have difficulty identifying people because of the lack of such documents. |
