THE Namibian under-18 rugby side will play in the semi-finals of the Confederation of Africa Cup after they scored emphatic wins over Uganda and Kenya at the Hage Geingob Stadium over the weekend.

In their first match on Friday, Namibia ran a handful of tries to emerge as 65-10 winners, while yesterday, the Namibian youngsters recorded a 37-5 victory against Kenya.

The tournament is not part of the under-18 World Cup qualifiers as reported earlier, but it is an annual tournament organised by CAR.

There are two groups of three teams each and the winners will play in the CAR final at a later stage.

In another high-scoring match on Friday, South Africa swept aside Madagascar 75-6, while Zimbabwe had the better of Kenya with a runaway 37-3 victory.

In an earlier match yesterday, Kenya could not contain the might of Zimbabwe when they fell 56-14.

Saturday was rest day for all the teams.

South Africa also did not play yesterday and will be expected to face Morocco today, while Namibia take on Zimbabwe.

Kenya take on Uganda in another match.

The semi-finals will be played on Thursday to determine the two teams that will contest the final on Saturday, September 3.

Namibia's team manager, Gabriel Tjombe, expressed disappointment with the turnout of the public over the long weekend.

He said although there were at least 200 people at the matches yesterday, it was not enough for such a 'high calibre tournament'.

The first day had close to 500 spectators in attendance to witness the colourful opening ceremony.

Tjombe said he hoped that more people would attend the remaining matches.
