The announcement of Kapia's resignation comes in the wake of the shock news late last night of the suicide of Avid CEO Lazarus Kandara shortly after his arrest on charges of theft and fraud.

The statement, by Dr Alberty Kawana, Minister of Presidential Affairs, said that the Deputy Minister had tendered his resignation yesterday, August 24, and that it had been accepted by the President.

Kapia may well be one of the shortest-serving Ministers in Namibian history.

Shortly after being appointed to the Pohamba Cabinet in March this year, it was revealed that he was a director of Avid Corporation which had invested N$30 million on behalf of the Social Security Commission.

In a liquidation inquiry currently being held before acting Judge Raymond Heathcote, it was revealed that Kapia had received a financial kickback.
