Business community urged to participate at Expo/Huila 2004

TONDERAI KATSWARA

THE Angolan Embassy in Namibia is calling on the local business community to participate in the trade expo to be held in Lubango in the province of Huila in Angola from the 18th to the 22nd of this month.

The expo, named the Agricultural-Industrial International Fair of Our Lady of the Hill, is an international fair held in August annually in Angola's second capital city Lubango; which is also the country's tourism hub.

According to the Angolan embassy in Windhoek the expo, constitutes an opportunity for business exchanges between the two countries in areas of construction, tourism, agriculture, fishing, mining and technology, "therefore businesses and entrepreneurs wanting to extend their operations in Angola are welcome to explore great opportunities".

Registration for exhibitions is currently underway at the Angolan Embassy in Windhoek and local businesses have been called upon to contact the embassy and the Namibian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Lubango is the provincial capital of Huila, which is Angola's biggest farming and cattle producing area.

The province is also home to the Angolan nomads, the Mumwila, whose lifestyle is similar to that of the Himba.

Lubango is widely seen as Angola's growing tourist attractions, and is in the province which is safe and landmine-free.

A consultant with the Angolan Embassy, Kirsti Mukwilongo said the embassy wanted the local business community to be part of the Lubango expo because generally Angola wanted Namibia to "vigorously participate in the reconstruction on the country" after the devastation of the civil war, which ended a few years back.

The Agricultural- Industrial International Fair of Our Lady of the Hill is expected to bring together business people from different countries, mainly from Africa and Europe.
