SWAPO Government is too Tribalist, Nepotism and Corruption

ALLOW me space in your good newspaper in our country to express my disappointment with Swapo which was formed on 19 April 1960.

The aim and what led to the formation of the party was to fight apartheid and the racist South African government and to liberate Namibia from colonialism.

All Namibian ethnic groups were participating in the independence liberation struggle of this country under the People Liberation Army of Namibia (Plan) the armed wing of Swapo party.

Before independence Swapo leaders told Namibians that after independence there would be no tribalism, nepotism and corruption in Namibia under a Swapo-led government.

They said all people would be equal and there will be no poor Namibians under a Swapo government.

And the Swapo slogan at that time was "one Namibia one nation."

In March 21, 1990 Namibia got its independence and everything was satisfactory.

Why have I said everything was satisfactory? Its because our parliament at that time was balanced with all ethnic groups, which has really shown reconciliation and progress among Namibians.

Now you will hardly find the above practised in our parliament.

Instead what you would find there are increased walk outs by opposition members from the parliament chamber, attacks on sexual minorities, whites, imperialists and civil societies.

Therefore I want to use this opportunity to prove the above points about tribalism, nepotism and corruption in Swapo government.

* Corruption: The reasons why I mention corruption in Swapo government is because, in 1998 the cabinet approved sending our troops to fight in the DRC war without the parliamentary approval as required by the Constitution.

The DRC war left the Namibian nation suffering, not only because of poverty, crime, unemployment but also by the fact that brave sons and daughters lost their lives in that illegal war.

The other fact is that President Kabila, whom they claim they went there to defend, was assassinated.

The N$25 million loan Kabila was given cannot be accounted for.

Now my question is, who is going to pay this loan and when? And remember that this money is from our pocket as taxpayers.

Swapo government did not consider that as corruption and then went ahead to build Heroes Acre which cost the amount of N$47 million and again, are constructing a new State House for the amount of N$500, million.

Now as a result of such corruption innocent Namibians have to pay.

* Tribalism and Nepotism in the Swapo government: Some Swapo leaders started to call for jobs for comrades only or for Swap loyalists to be placed in strategic positions.

This means that if you are not a comrade or Swapo loyalist, forget about getting employed in such positions.

If you want proof ask Social Security Commission about what happened to Mr Koot van der Merwe who was appointed chief executive officer of SSC.

The other issue to prove this is Minister of Finance Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila who dismissed the Agribank board of directors because they refused to appoint Isak Katali as the Agribank chief executive officer.

Is this not tribalism and nepotism? I want an answer.

Did Swapo forget the slogan 'One Namibia One Nation?' When people complain about Swapo practising tribalism, nepotism and corruption, then the Swapo government attacks them calling them names such as non-African, puppets and imperialists and some were told to pack and go.

Stop corruption, tribalism and nepotism please!
