Election campaign on real issues

Allow me a space in order to express my views in your newspaper.

It is time again for the election process.

Democracy can only be realized when citizens are taking an active part in election process.

Democratic self-govervanance means that citizens are actively involved in how they are governed.

Responsible citizenship comes from active participation in politics.

Firstly, members of the political parties, sympathizers or supporters need to come together and lobby others who is to represent them and present their problems.

The people can only participate when they have registered and obtained their voting card.

The voting card is a passport to enter into the voting booth.

It is only the people ( citizens) who have elected and voted the leadership to power can monitor and quard against bad government.

The people need to understand what is expected of them which is part of their rights and responsibilities.

This doesn't matter whether one is well-educated or not educated.

It is the public that has to decide on how they are to be governed and not the leaders on how they should govern them.

The ordinary people of the society only practice their participatory rights when they are motivated and encouraged to be independent .

It is when people know their rights are then free from fear.

I am therefore calling upon the politicians in this country to make the coming election issue-based.

They must avoid bad tactics of slander, dirty tricks, smear campaign and hate speeches that discourage citizens to participate in politics.

We want to hear what new developments are in pipeline, what the future is holding for us.
