Nauseb no longer captain at Ajax and Van Wky signs with Stars

NAMIBIAN international, Robert Nauseb is no longer captain of South African Premier Soccer League side, Ajax Cape Town, due to his foreign status.

Nauseb told Nampa on Tuesday that he was stripped of the captain's armband because his chances of playing in all the games will be limited as Ajax now has five foreign players on its payroll.

Nauseb said the decision was agreed between himself and Coach, Charles Ingesund, recently.

He said South African soccer regulations only allow four foreign players to feature in any league match and that he might not play in some of them.

He said Ingesund replaced him with Alfred Phiri as the club's new skipper on Tuesday.

"I am happy with the decision and I am looking forward to the new season," he said.

He added that he hopes to feature in the Ajax fixture against Hellenic on August 27.

The Namibian said the team will only be selected next Tuesday.

Nauseb has been captain of Ajax Cape Town for the entire 2002/2003 season.

Meanwhile, former Namibian international striker, Ruben van Wyk has finally joined South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) side, Silver Stars.

The move came about after an agreement between Van Wyk's former club, Free State Stars, and Silver Stars following the removal of Free State Stars from the PSL.

The removal of Free State Stars and Ria Stars came after a decision by the PSL to reduce the number of teams from 18 to 16 due to their current financial position.

Van Wyk has been training with the club before he was officially signed.

He is reported to be waiting for his work permit at the moment.

Efforts to reach Van Wyk for comment proved futile.
