The Brave Warriors striker was described by Nambia Football Association (NFA) President Petrus Damaseb as the one of the deadliest strikers in the country at the association's second annual awards. Uri-khob, who also received a special NFA's President's Award, has scored 12 goals for the Brave Warriors, but has not featured in the national side since last September. Santos mentor Max Johnson, who is currently in Norway on official business, was named as the Coach of the Season, while the entire team were there to receive the league trophy. Windhoek-side Civics took the runners-up trophy and the team's captain Amos Shiyuka won the Most Valuable Player award. Damaseb said other teams should emulate the example of professionalism set by Civics, adding that going professional is the only solution to the problems that beset Namibian football today. Civics' owner, Helmuth Scharnowski, officially received the NFA Tafel Lager Cup after his team won it for the first time last season. Namibia Premier League and Fifa ranked referee Piet Eksteen walked away with the Referee of the Season award, while Khomas Soccer Region's Salomo Naukushu bagged the Administrator of the Season award. Damaseb said Naukushu had contributed greatly to football in the country and his commitment to the game made him stand tall among his peers. NFA spokesperson Cassius Moetie singled out Eksteen as a consistent referee at national and international levels in his capacities as match commissioner and referee. Chris Dausab won a referees' award for his handling of matches in the Tafel Lager NFA Cup. Rehoboth-based Friends football club, which made its first appearance in the NPL last season, received both the Most Disciplined and Most Improved team awards. Friends ended 10th in the 16-team league last season, with their top striker Immanuel Kooper also being awarded the Top Goalscorer of the Season trophy after scoring 18 goals. Receiving a special President's award was Brave Warriors mascot Robbie Savage. The Namibian's Conrad Angula also received recognition for inventing the name 'Brave Warriors'. Players and officials in the various regional divisions were recognised at the function, while there were also awards for the print media, television and radio. |
