Two toddlers die in hut blaze

LINDSAY DENTLINGER

TWO young children died a horrible death on Friday night when the hut in which they were asleep burnt down, the Police reported yesterday.

The incident took place at Onhuno village in the North.

The children's mother told Police that she left a candle burning in the hut where three-year-old Aune Shipanga and 11-month-old Johanna Jeremia were sleeping.

She said she had gone to fetch water.

When she returned, she found the hut engulfed in flames.

* A case of culpable homicide is being investigated after seven-year-old Johnny Fernando was killed in a hit-and-run accident.

Fernando was knocked down along Ombakata Street in the Oshatotwa settlement by the driver of a Nissan minibus at roughly 14h20 on Friday.

The driver abandoned the vehicle about 200 metres from the scene of the accident, and remains at large.
