Family finally see suicide note in double slaying

TANGENI AMUPADHI

AFTER more than three months of suspecting that the Police might be shielding a politician named in the killing of a child and a suicide, the grieving family now have the proof that was kept from them.

Relatives of Festus Ngoloimwe (31) said yesterday that they have finally gained access to the letter that he wrote before shooting dead his four-year-old daughter, Ombili, and turning the gun on himself.

In the impassioned letter to his common-law wife with whom he had the child, Ngoloimwe blamed his girlfriend for dumping him for "that old man".

He named the third person in the suicide note, and attempted to explain why he killed their daughter.

"Today you lost all love, all of us, me and Ombili.

I wish I could let Ombili stay with you.

But the way you play foul is not the way I will let her stay with you," he wrote to his former partner.

The family said they were satisfied now that the note had been released and they would finally lay the matter to rest.

They are convinced that the hand-writing is that of Ngoloimwe.

They had been concerned that the Police were trying to cover up the information because the "old man" cited in the suicide note is a National Council lawmaker.

In June the Police said confusion surrounded the case and claimed they had not seen the suicide note.

The family received the note from Oshakati Magistrate HN Ekandjo after requesting to see it.
