Drought gets worse

KEETMANSHOOP - The acute drought situation in the Hardap and Karas Regions has forced some farmers to take drastic measures to save their livestock.

They have now resorted to making use of the corridor along the main tarred road between Keetmanshoop and Windhoek as grazing for their livestock.

Some motorists who spoke to Nampa expressed concern that the increase in livestock near the main road could lead to accidents.

A goat herder approached by Nampa along the road near the settlement of Ganigobes said they were forced to take the animals close to the road because of a lack of grazing in the normal feeding zones.

The drought situation is expected to top the agenda at the fourth congress of SNAFU which starts at Keetmanshoop today.
