Tuhafeni Petrus followed Iita in one hour, 10 minutes and 40 seconds. Beatha Naigambo, who has been attending coaching clinics in South Africa and was away during the race at Rundu, won the women's 21km category race in one hour, 18 minutes and 43 seconds. Helena Iipinge, the winner of the 21km women's category at Rundu, came after Naigambo in one hour, 24 minutes and three seconds, poorer than her performance of one hour, 21 minutes and 41 seconds last month. Winners of the 5km race in the under-15 male and female categories were Sion Shilunga and Peneyambeko Haininga, respectively. Betuel Iita took the 15-19 years category in the male section, while Serine Aindongo walked away with the same title in the girls' 15-19-year category. The 20-39 years men and women's titles went to David Nakale and Klaudia Shoopala. Simon Totwe scooped the veteran men's title, with Fredericka Shilongo as his female counterpart. Makaisapi Tjambiru from Opuwo in the Kunene region made history by becoming the first-ever Himba person to participate in the Victory Race championships. The highest participation of more than 1000 runners, mostly scholars, was recorded during the Oshakati 2003 Victory Race, which is co-sponsored by Old Mutual, Marathon Sugar, the Pepsi brand of Namibia Breweries Limited, as well as MTC. - Nampa |
