German police raid mosque in search for terrorist suspect

HAMBURG, Germany, Sept 11 (AFP) - German police Wednesday raided a mosque in the northern city of Hamburg to search for a terrorist suspect believed to be planning an attack, as the world marked the first anniversary of the September 11 events.

The police did not identify the man or give details of the planned attack, but were to hold a press conference later in the day.

Three of the Muslim militants who hijacked planes on September 11 last year to attack US targets lived in Hamburg, which German police believe was a rear base for preparing the attacks.
