UN expert says more than 150 killed in DR Congo mutiny

GENEVA, June 27 (AFP) - The UN's expert on extrajudicial killings said here on Thursday that more than 150 people were killed by rebels during a mutiny in Kisangani in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on May 14 and in the days that followed.

"I would not dispute the figure of 150. I think that is a minimum figure that you can take," Asma Jahangir, the UN's special rapporteur on extrajudicial killings, told reporters after a five-day fact-finding mission to the country that ended last Friday.

"These killings were done, I believe, by the authorities of RCD-Goma," she added, referring to the Rwandan-backed Congolese Rally for Democracy (RCD), which also controls Kisangani. -
