Monday, June 17, 2002 - Web posted at 11:39:30 am GMT Five killed in Nigerian campus violenceLAGOS, June 17 (AFP)- Five people were killed when a violent student gang invaded the campus of a Nigerian university, officials said Monday. The invasion of the University of Nigeria by the gang members on Saturday also left many students injured, a campus spokesman told Nampa-AFP. He said four students of the university were among those killed during the attack while an unidentified man was killed outside the gates of the campus by the gang. The spokesman said two of the attackers have been arrested and handed over to the police. The government and university authorities have so far failed to wipe out campus gangsterism which has assumed tragic and alarming proportions in recent years. - Nampa-AFP |
