Mpuma robbers steal 100kg of explosives

KWAMHLANGA - Mpumalanga police were searching for three men on Wednesday after a bakkie carrying 100kg of explosives was stolen from a building site in Kwamhlanga.

"It is really very worrying. Somebody with no knowledge of explosives might tamper with it, and that's when the trouble starts," highveld area police spokesman Captain Malcolm Mokomene said on Wednesday.

The trio struck on Tuesday when they held up three workers who were conducting blasting operations in order to construct water pipes.

The assailants robbed them of their watches, cellphones and cash before demanding the keys to a Ford Courier bakkie parked on the site. The men handed the keys over and the group sped off in the vehicle which had about 100kg of explosives in the back.

The police later found the abandoned bakkie in the area but the explosives had been removed.

Anyone with information that could assist the police in their investigation should contact 08600-10111. Nampa-Sapa
