Wednesday, August 28, 2002 - Web posted at 2:20:13 pm GMT Two dead in Algerian violenceALGIERS, Aug 28 (AFP) - A farmer and an Islamic extremist were killed this week in Algerian violence, newspapers reported Wednesday. The farmer had his throat slit in front of his eight children during an attack on his home by suspected Islamic extremists late Monday near Skikda in the far northeast of the country. They also burned down his stable, the reports said. On Tuesday, security forces killed an Islamic extremist at a security checkpoint outside Medea, some 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of the capital Algiers. He was trying to pull a gun from a bag when he was shot dead, the reports said, adding that a knife and a bomb were also found in the bag.
