Tuesday, April 30, 2002 - Web posted at 8:31:00 pm GMT Council approves Ongopolo initiativeTHE City of Windhoek has approved a plan that will enable mining company Ongopolo to assist approximately 200 of their Otjihase Mine employees with low-cost housing units in Windhoek. After negotiations involving the Mineworkers Union of Namibia (MUN) and the National Housing Enterprise (NHE), Ongopolo agreed to procure land at Goreangab where the housing units will be constructed. The plan, approved by the City last week, is the culmination of a workshop held in 2000 at which the authority was asked to arrange a workshop with major employers to address the housing needs of low and ultra-low income employees. Apart from Ongopolo, other firms that appear keen on the initiative are Namibia Breweries and the Barlow Group. |
