Friday, April 26, 2002 - Web posted at 7:18:07 pm GMT Unicef's orphan care project eyes OmusatiUNITED Nations Children Fund (Unicef) and Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Welfare (MWACW) officials are touring the Omusati Region with a view to introducing Unicef's Orphan Care project. They are visiting the project's six selected constituencies of Outapi, Okahao, Etayi, Okalongo, Onesi and Ruacana. The delegation will also visit the Development Aid from People to People's (DAPP) community centre at Onambelela village near Outapi today. Addressing a community meeting at Etayi village on Tuesday, Unicef's Project Officer, Doris Roos, said the project is aimed at accessing education and medical care for orphans. MWACW's Early Childhood National Co-ordinator Spendu Onesmus said the project is concerned about reports which allege that orphans are abused and not properly taken care of in some families. She said the project is aimed ensuring that orphans are brought up properly like other children, in normal families and are not robbed of their rights to education and medical care. - Nampa |
