Two OD on tablets

CONRAD ANGULA

A 16-year-old teenage girl died at the Nkurenkuru Health Centre, approximately 145 kilometres west of Rundu in north-eastern Namibia, after she overdosed on pain killers.

"Namutenya Karote Haingura swallowed various pain killer tablets at Nkurenkuru Elain High School, where she was a learner, at about 22h30 on Sunday, April 14," Police Sergeant James Matengu told The Namibian.

"She was taken to the health centre immediately afterwards but she could not make it. She left a suicide note but the family preferred not to reveal its contents," Matengu added.

The deceased was the daughter of the late Swapo National Councillor, Ambrosius Haingura, who died some 18 months ago.

* A 37-year-old woman from Matava village, approximately 120 kilometres west of Rundu, has also died of a tablet overdose.

"Josephine Muharwa Naire reportedly died on the spot [last week] after swallowing chloroquine tablets and some poisonous traditional medicine," Matengu said.

Inquests will be held into both deaths.
