Angolan diplomat's house raided, N$88 000 stolen

MAX HAMATA

TWO men raided the house of an Angolan diplomat on Thursday, assaulted a domestic worker and stole foreign and local currency amounting to N$88 000.

Senior Police officer in the Serious Crimes Unit, Detective Inspector Michael Booysen, confirmed the incident to The Namibian.

Domestic worker Rosa Kahono (30) was sitting on the stoep outside the Klein Windhoek residence of Angolan Embassy Press Attache, Ilda Carreira, when she was attacked by the two men.

One of the assailants grabbed her from behind, and his companion pushed her into the house. She was blindfolded with tape and her hands tied behind her back.

The two men then demanded to know where Carreira kept her money.

When Kahoro said she did not know, the duo became violent and repeatedly hit her on the head with a revolver butt.

"They forced her to show them the way to the main bedroom before they ransacked the room in search of money," Booysen said.

Carreira, who had moved into the house only a few days previously, was alerted by her neighbours who called the Embassy to inform her about the mayhem at her house.

"I don't understand how these men knew that I keep money in my room. I just took the cash from the bank with the intention of buying furniture," said Carreira.

"I kept the money at the house because I was going to buy the furniture tomorrow (Friday),"said the Angolan diplomat.

Booysen speculated that someone might have trailed the diplomat from the bank. "We suspect it is somebody who had planned the raid very well," said Booysen.
