Women in the majority

MAX HAMATA

PRELIMINARY results from Namibia's second post-Independence census show that females still outnumber males in Namibia at a ratio of 100 females to 95 males, President Sam Nujoma said yesterday.

The President said the figures underscored the futility of any development efforts that marginalised women.

"It also highlights the urgency to ensure full participation of women in all development activities if progress is to be made in our efforts to overcome poverty and under-development in our country," he said.

The President was speaking during his annual State of the Nation Address in Parliament.
